The deal is VTG's second under its new private equity owner.
Chantilly government contractor VTG has struck its second acquisition in less than two months, this time buying a company in its own backyard.
The company announced Monday that it has acquired Clear Cloud LLC, a Reston startup that, like VTG, provides technology services to U.S. defense and intelligence agencies. A sale price was not disclosed.
The deal is VTG’s fifth since early 2021 and second since the New York private equity firm A&M Capital Partners bought a majority stake in VTG last September from The Jordan Co., another New York private equity firm that had been VTG’s majority owner since 2012. In late April, VTG bought Vana Solutions LLC, a Dayton, Ohio, company that provided cloud-based tech services to the U.S. Air Force and other defense agencies.
VTG said in a statement that the acquisition will strengthen its cloud capabilities as it seeks to deepen its ties with U.S. intelligence agencies. Founded in 2018 by Charles Thomas Jr., the company provides software, cloud and data engineering services to intelligence agencies and their customers.
“We are excited to welcome Clear Cloud and its remarkably talented cadre of developers, engineers, and technologists to VTG,” President and CEO John Hassoun said in a statement.
Thomas, a former Notre Dame basketball player, was honored by the Washington Business Journal as a minority business leader in 2019. In a statement, he said his firm’s sale to VTG is a “milestone” that reflects “the outstanding contributions of each team member.”
“We are thrilled to enter the next phase of our journey with such a great partner,” he said.
Clear Cloud has between 51 and 200 employees, according to LinkedIn.
VTG ranked among the Washington Business Journal’s 50 largest government technology contractors by number of metro-area employees in 2020, 2021 and 2022, but did not appear in the most recent rankings. At the end of 2022, it had 730 employees locally and 1,300 total.
